Caring for your jewellery

Fine jewellery is made to be worn, and a little care keeps it looking its best for a lifetime. Here is how to keep every By Eight piece bright.

Cleaning & Care FAQ

How do I care for each material?
  • Stainless Steel — Hard-wearing and naturally tarnish-resistant. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear.
  • 925 Sterling Silver — Naturally tarnishes with air and skin contact. Restore shine with the polishing cloth included with every order.
  • Moissanite Stones — Exceptionally hard and brilliant, but oils and lotions can dull its sparkle over time.
How do I clean my jewellery at home?
  • Soak briefly — Lukewarm water with a small amount of mild, non-abrasive soap for a few minutes. Skip soaking for pieces you are unsure of and spot-clean instead.
  • Brush gently — A soft-bristled brush lifts dirt from crevices, prongs and around moissanite settings. Never scrub with abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
  • Rinse & dry — Rinse in clean water, then dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth before storing. Trapped moisture speeds up tarnishing on silver.
What should I avoid?
  • Ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Sleeping, showering or exercising in your pieces.
  • Storing jewellery loose in a humid bathroom.
  • Letting pieces touch chlorine, salt water or bleach.
